Rule of thumb: if your day takes a horrible turn for the worst, blame the pelican.

That’s just what a man in Texas did after rocketing his $1.3 million-dollar Bugatti Veyron into two feet of water. According to the Galveston County Daily News, the man was driving through the area to look at real estate, when a low-flying pelican distracted him.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the cell phone he dropped was also a distraction, but nevertheless, he reportedly jerked the wheel in response to the bird, hit a muddy slope, and landed in the lagoon.

According to the paper, the Veyron’s 1001-hp W-16 engine “gurgled like an outboard motor” for about 15 minutes before it died. Somewhere, Ettore Bugatti is spinning in his grave. For what it's worth, I'm bawling like a Sanjaya fan...

Video of the sunken Bug being extracted from the bog is available on YouTube. Try not to weep openly in front of coworkers, but if you should, you can always blame the pelican...
