Chrysler began its marathon day of unveiling its five-year business plan by fleshing out the product future of its Dodge brand.

For the next few years, the brand will rely on several refreshes of existing models, all presumably biding time until Fiat-based models can be developed for our shores.

First up for a makeover will be the Avenger sedan, Journey crossover, and Grand Caravan minivan. All three will receive revamped interiors and exteriors next year, along with the new "Pentastar" (nee-"Phoenix) 3.6-liter V-6. We've been assured the Grand Caravan, which currently lags behind the likes of the Honda Odyssey in overall refinement, will feature "best in class" comfort, ride, and handling.

We're told to expect the same when the next-generation Charger debuts in the same time frame. Expect the next iteration of Dodge's big sedan to have more styling cues culled from the original, much like the concept shown in 1999.

Looking beyond 2010, we see a cadre of Fiat-produced vehicles, including an Avenger replacement and a new compact car to replace the Caliber. Fiat says a new Viper is "under consideration," as is a replacement for the Nitro SUV.
