One of the recurring themes of the Tokyo motor show is the concept of urban mobility, which is no surprise given the population density and utter lack of parking around Tokyo. In order to buy a car here, you have to prove you have a parking spot for it. Nissan's Land Glider is the latest concept that attempts to blend the ease of parking motorcyclists know with the security and safety of an automobile.
Land Glider even takes the motorcycle approach a bit farther by leaning into turns, which apparently simulates the benefits of a wider track for handling purposes. Keeping with the current green trend in transportation, the Land Glider utilizes an all-electric drivetrain featuring lithium-ion batteries stored under the vehicle's floor. Supposedly the Land Glider is able to be recharged without plugging a cord in to the vehicle, which would make recharges at shopping malls much easier.
The last paragraph in Nissan's press release is quite interesting, "Whilst Land Glider is a concept car created for the Tokyo Motor Show, it should not be regarded as a mere design study." We doubt the Land Glider itself will enter production, but Nissan is firmly committed to the EV and smaller cars.
