Detroit 2009: 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

There were a lot of new cars at the Detroit show, but one that didn't look so new was the 2010 Chevy Equinox. To my eyes, this new Chevy is a collection of familiar design cues, gathered together in a familiar way. Nothing fresh here.

But then I got a look inside. The display car's cabin is turned out in a very attractive two-tone leather with contrasting stitching. Surprisingly, Chevrolet will offer two multi-color options (brown/black and pale gray/black) and only one monochrome color (black). As before, the rear seat can slide fore and aft eight inches, and in the rearmost position the legroom is truly generous. (However, there is no third seat option.) Most impressive is the interior quality; current Equinox owners who climb inside will think they're in something twice as expensive. Too bad this world-class cabin is encased in such a generic wrapper.
