Though hopes were high following their purchase by Tata Motors, slow sales have caused both Jaguar and Land Rover to cut production and idle three assembly lines in Britain.

"We're taking prudent action to match production to demand," says Don Hume, Jaguar Land Rover's director of corporate and government affairs.

Jaguar's plant in Halewood, England, will close for a week beginning October 27th.  Land Rover's Solihull plant will eliminate one shift, while Jaguar's Castle Bromwich facility, responsible for the XJ and XK, will also adjust its shift assignments.

Hume said that there would be no job losses and that no further cuts are planned, though he added added, however, that the situation would be under "constant review."
