How will that happen? Certainly, Chevy's larger dealer network may help the Traverse's sales, but a $2000 rebate to those who don't own GM vehicles may draw interest.
"We need to conquest," says Chevrolet brand manager Ed Peper. "We need new fresh people."
Though Peper hopes the Traverse will draw shoppers away from similar offerings from Toyota, Honda, and Ford (the Highlander, Pilot, and Flex, respectively), that goal is complicated by GM's own lineup. The Traverse competes against three other GM crossovers: the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook. All three use the same Lambda-platform underpinnings and, to an extent, compete in the same segment.
Arguably, the Traverse competes most directly with the Saturn, sharing similar content levels and sticker prices. A base 2009 Traverse LT starts at $28,990, while a front-wheel-drive Outlook XE begins at $29,360.
