Kia Cee'd and Soul Hybrid Concepts Will Debut at Paris Motor Show

Along with the production Soul hatchback, Kia will bring two hybrid concept cars - one based off the Soul and another off the Cee'd - to the 2008 Paris motor show.

Though both cars look rather different, they share their conceptual hybrid systems.  Both the Soul and Cee'd use a 1.6-liter gasoline I-4 paired with a 15-kW electric motor.  Both are coupled through a Kia-designed CVT, though we don't yet know if the system functions as a series- or a series-parallel hybrid.

On the Soul, the hybrid system is reportedly good for a fuel economy figure of 48 mpg (on the European test cycle) and CO2 emissions of 117 g/km.  As it's slightly lighter, figures for the Cee'd hybrid are slightly better (49 mpg and 114 g/km, respectively).

We hope to find out more on both Kia's hybrid drivetrain and its chances of reaching production come Wednesday, when the motor show officially begins.  Stay with Automobile Magazine for all the latest news from Paris.
