Interested in putting a 2009 Mini E through its paces for a year?  Here's the first step in acquiring one of the electric Minis: fill out the application.

Shortly after announcing the vehicle, an official sign-up list went live at Minispace.com.  Though details surrounding the selection process and leasing agreement are still unknown, those who can't wait for the electric Mini can at least toss their hat in the ring.

Though we've not seen lease costs, we're told leasing a Mini E includes a year's worth of free service and an in-home electric charger.  There are, however, a few restrictions that we do know of - applicants must reside in either Los Angeles or the metropolitan New York City area, and possess a locking garage or storage area to install the in-home charger.

Even with those caveats, we're sure interest will outstrip supply.  Only 500 examples are destined for the U.S, and with a recharge time of 2.5 hours and a range of 150 miles, we're sure they'll sell (lease?) out fast.
