Having dominated the WRC scene for the past decade, a specially-prepped Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution tried a new sport this past weekend: road racing.

Developed by Mitsubishi and ADR Motorsport, the Evo touring car was specially prepared for the Britcar Championship, a touring car series that runs in England.  The 400-hp Lancer made its debut on Saturday, when it entered a 24-hour endurance race at Silverstone.

The Evo seems to have found success on its first outing.  James Kaye, Andy Barnes, Mark Lemmer, and Jay Wheals drove the car to a fifth-place class finish, and managed to rank 25th overall.  According to Mitsubishi, the only maintenance required was changing brake pads and tires - although we can't help but notice some large patches of duct tape on the Lancer's bodywork...

Though Mitsubishi is considering launching a special one-make series for the Evolution touring car, they'll likely continue to field this example in future Britcar events.
