For those have always wanted to travel across the world to drive Hummers through the desert, but have not jumped at the chance to join the military, here is the opportunity of a lifetime.

GM is launching the first Hummer Driving Academy in Morocco as it tries to expand the brand’s appeal abroad. From Nov. 7-12, the academy will take 14 Hummer H3s on a 1300km route that passes through the Sahara Desert. The Hummers will have desert tires and GPS navigation, but otherwise will be standard H3s with 3.7-liter 5-cylinder engines and automatic transmissions.

The program is the first of many planned for 2009, GM says. Cost for the trip, including accommodation in some of Morocco’s posh hotels, is 3995 Euros, or about $5869 for a team of two (a driver and co-pilot).
