Autocar.co.uk has some juicy info about the next Volkswagen GTI. I can't wait to get behind the wheel.

We really like the VW GTI at Automobile Magazine. It has a level of performance, refinement, utility, and value that is tough to beat. With the recent release of info on the new VW Golf/Rabbit, we knew there would be news about the next GTI coming soon after. Autocar in the UK just posted some of that info:

No surprise, the GTI VI will get the recently updated 2.0T that the USA will first see in the new Audi A4. In the Audi, this engine develops 211 hp and an impressive 258 lb-ft of torque (up from 200 hp and 207 lb-ft) plus it returns better fuel economy than the present 2.0T according to Audi. Seeing our four seasons GTI was thirstier than we feel it should have been, this is good news indeed.

Autocar also says that the GTI will come standard with 18-inch wheels and 19s will be optional. We'll see what the U.S. market gets but I'm a bit scared to think what 19s would do to the ride.

The only other thing I can hope for is that the USA GTI will finally get the top-spec cloth seats found on the Euro GTI. Will the Euro as strong as it is, I don't see that as likely.
