Don’t let anyone tell you the BMW Z4 roadster you’ve been looking at isn’t a practical purchase for the future. BMW has just won its fourth consecutive Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes award.

The SAM Group publishes the indexes annually in attempt to quantify how well companies have integrated social, environmental, and long term economic challenges into their business strategies. It ranks companies across eighteen segments, including automobiles and parts, where BMW, it said, has been a consistent leader.

But doesn’t BMW make aggressive, powerful premium cars, you ask? In fact, the report did note BMW’s “rather high” carbon dioxide emissions. But it heaped praise on the automaker for its strong social involvement, its commitment to its workers, and its advanced, flexible production practices.
