We're aware of the spiritual connection between the pony car and the P-51 Mustang, but the 2009 Ford Mustang AV8R, a one-off special built for charity, takes the warbird lineage to a new level.

Starting with a 2009 Mustang GT Glass Roof, the AV8R adds anodized silver paint and a blacked-out hood and trunk.  Ford has added a supercharger to the 4.6-liter SOHC V-8 (boosting output to 400 hp) and a Ford Racing suspension kit, which includes modified springs, shocks, anti-roll bars and a strut tower brace.

Inside, the AV8R's leather seats are trimmed like vintage bomber jackets, while the dashboard trim, stolen from the Bullitt Mustang, is finished with a turned-aluminum pattern.

The Mustang AV8R will be auctioned at this weekend's AirVenture show, held by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  Proceeds from the AV8R's sale go to the EAA's Group of Eagles program, which provides scholarships to students pursuing careers in aviation.
