Who's the biggest automaker of them all?  If you're measuring by worldwide sales, then the answer would be Toyota - at least in the first half of 2008.

Between January and June of this year, Toyota Motor Corporation sold 4.8 million cars and trucks around the globe - a two percent gain over the same period in 2007.

The increase helped Toyota fly past 2007's global sales leader, GM.  The General reported global first-half sales of 4.5 million vehicles.  The automaker attributes the lowered figure to a tumultuous U.S. market.
