Looking for a vehicle that's a mixture of scooter and car? If so, then the 2008 ScootCoupe may be just your (three-wheel) ride.
Developed for scooter rental companies, the ScootCoupe is little more than a trike with a swoopy fiberglass body. Sure, the passenger sits next to the driver, but most systems - including the handlebar steering - are lifted straight from a common moped.
So too is the powertrain. Base ScootCoupes use a 50cc 1.9-hp one-cylinder engine, while uplevel models feature a 150cc mill good for 9.8 hp. Either motor starts with a kick starter, and is coupled to a continuously variable transmission - albeit without a reverse gear.
With little power, room, or luxury (there's no protection from the elements), the ScootCoupe isn't the ideal daily driver. But for people looking for a brief ride - and fuel economy figures in the 60 mpg range - the ScootCoupe may carve its own niche.
Pricing for the 50cc model begins at $6299; the 150cc ScootCoupe begins at $6599. For more information, visit ScootCoupe.com.
