Life-Changing Things I Have Done This Month

Who needs a job as codriver? This guy.

Last Thursday's to-do list: 1) Fly to Maine for the New England Forest Rally with Rally America. 2) Grab ride with Subaru factory driver Ken Block. 3) Have life changed, sell kidneys, devote entire existence to rallying.

So: I've been a fan of rallying since I was little. Watched the Group B tapes, wanted to be (American rally legend/Audi Quattro driver) John Buffum when I grew up, always thought Colin McRae was The Man, always loved things like this:

Little did I know that my entire existence would gain new meaning. Little did I know that one whacked-out ride through the woods on a piddly little shakedown stage would make me redefine the very essence of my being. But it did. The following items are things that I know to be true: Ken Block can drive. Subaru's open-class 2008 Impreza WRX STI is unstoppable. I tend to use italics when I get excited.

Yes, that's me in the cockpit.

Yes, I'm still jittering, six days later.

More to come. But I had to share. And a word of advice: Rally drivers are the most talented wheelmen on the planet. Promise.
