While Volkswagen seems set on building the Up! minicar, executives are still pondering where to produce it. One possibility lies with a Skoda (VW's Czech subsidiary) plant in Vrchlabi, Czech Republic. The factory, currently responsible for building the Jetta-based Octavia sedan, has room for an additional product. The automaker also received nearly $89 million in financing from the Czech government to improve the plant's infrastructure.
Although the car could be built in the plant, Skoda officials note it could prove difficult to sell the car as a Skoda. The Up! could carry a price tag similar to the larger Fabia, Skoda's own compact car.
