Fear not, Tesla customers: Roadsters are starting to trickle into Tesla's Menlo Park, California, facility for final assembly.
A memo sent by Tesla Motors president and CEO Ze'ev Drori to prospective customers recently surfaced on the company's blog. Drori notes that nine production cars have arrived in California from Lotus's facilities in Hethel, England, while another three reportedly are scheduled for delivery next week. From then on, Drori expects Tesla to receive nearly four Roadsters, complete save for powertrain, each week.
Although Drori claims Tesla is currently "delivering the Roadster to [its] customers," he also mentions that 27 cars are currently in a state of partial assembly. Tesla says production is limited not only to ensure quality, but also to allow the company to develop and install its own transmission design.
Tesla aims to install the new transmissions in September, when it plans to ramp up production speed. If all goes according to plan, the company hopes to build 100 Roadsters per month by December.
