The move will cut 7,000 tons of emissions per year compared to electricity generated in standard power plants. GM has a 25 year agreement with Spanish utility firm, Endesa SA. The 85,000 panels could also aid in generating income for the automaker by selling electricity.
The panels, which should start producing power by the end of September, are produced by Michigan-based Energy Conversion Devices. The panels take up the space of 42 football fields in the Spanish facility which produces almost half a million cars per year.
