2009 Acura TSX

Just spent a couple days in the new TSX again and I thought I should add to my earlier comments. Previously, I did not mention the six-speed manual transmission, and it is truly excellent. It's a great partner to the 2.4-liter four, as the combo moves the TSX well enough that you're never wanting for a V-6. Over 128 miles of driving I saw 22.9 mpg, which was disappointing, but this was with a lot of stop-and-go driving in hilly terrain with the A/C blasting. After giving the nav system a workout, I'm less thrilled with it; it ought to be easier to go back when making selections, and you should be able to pick a street or even a city as a destination if you don't know the address number. Finally, the steering can get a little squirrelly under full throttle, although handling is otherwise very confidence-inspiring.

On a side note, I spoke with Honda product-planning VP Dan Bonawitz and asked whether Acura might add a smaller model to its lineup, now that the TSX has grown so much. He says there are no plans right now, but I still think the notion of a latter-day Integra, which could pull young enthusiasts into the brand and might also burnish Acura's performance credentials, is an idea that's right for the times.
