Mitsubishi i MIEV

The partnership between PSA Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi Motors may shift its way from SUVs to a greener alternative: electric vehicles.

According to the Japanese Nikkei business daily, the two groups are looking to forge a joint venture to produce EVs.

And by "joint venture," they may mean "badge-engineered Mitsubishis."  It's more likely that Mitsubishi - already making steps towards producing EVs and components - may supply Peugeot and Citroen than vice versa.

Even the Nikkei says Mitsubishi will supply PSA with technologies involving lithium-ion batteries, charging devices, controllers and motors - a vast majority of what's needed to construct an electric vehicle.

Mitsubishi acknowledges it's looking for partners in "various fields," but said that no decisions have been made.
