I'm far too young to remember a '60s Continental, so the interior touches that are supposed to evoke a better era of Lincolns just confuse me. The only part that was easy to read was the gas gauge, probably because I could watch it drop. I averaged a pathetic 13.2 mpg during my 80 miles of driving, which is a reasonable mix of city, highway, and rural roads. I wasn't even driving very hard. The "perennially underachieving 5.4-liter V-8," as Joe calls it, never gave me the confidence to pass people on the rural roads and merging with highway traffic was no better than acceptable.
I don't care for the power running boards. I'm a little over 6' tall and the running boards just seem to get in my way. The effect is cool, but I've never been an advocate for running boards on an SUV. Rocker protection, sure, but running boards scream suburban housewife. I like my SUVs lifted, locked, and ready for rocks. Not exactly what this Lincoln was designed for.
I found the audio system to be impressive. The THX stereo had very good sound and range. I was pretty surprised by how well music on my iPod sounded through the auxiliary input jack.
