Toyota may have thought small with its new iQ city car, but engineers are interested in developing a larger variant for those looking to carry more than three passengers and a handbag.

According to Autocar, Toyota sources say the company is eying a larger iQ, possibly with a full-fledged second row of seating.  That would move the ultra-compact car out of the fortwo's class, making it a possible competitor for the upcoming VW up! program.

The normal iQ, powered by either of two gasoline engines or a diesel motor, will arrive in Europe in early 2009.  Right now, don't look for any version to reach these shores in the near future.
