Read Joe Lorio's comments on driving the 2008 Jaguar XF Supercharged.

Approaching this black cat in the parking garage I was surprised how much it stood out from the rest of the cars - it's much more dramatic looking in person than it is in pictures.

It is frankly a relief to sit in this cabin, with its thoroughly modern design and very attractive brown and black leather with bright metal and discrete wood trim, and know that Jaguar has finally moved on from the interior design aesthetic it clung too for so long. Time to leave that look to the Korean wannabes.

Still, there are some miscues inside. The blue markings on silver are washed out with the headlights on during the daytime (as in the rain). The touch-screen logic is not the best. And the knob shifter is oddly unsatisfying.

Initial impression of the ride is that it's not as cosseting as previous Jags, but damping is impressive. Steering feels just right but throttle modulation could be more linear. Engine provides all the power in the world, and no, I don't miss the supercharger whine.

I look forward to spending more time with the XF.
