We know little about Mercedes-Benz's next-generation four-door hot rod, the E63 AMG, but we may know of one part of the car that's not changing. Autocar reports that the up-and-coming Blitzen Benz may use the current E63's 6.2-liter V-8.
Considering the rest of the car will be all-new, the decision to remain with the current engine may be surprising, but it's not necessarily a bad one. That 6.2-liter DOHC V-8 cranks out a respectable 507 horsepower in its federalized form, along with a solid 462 lb-ft of torque at 5200 rpm. Respectable numbers indeed - although a bump in power never hurt sales of a sports sedan.
Mercedes-Benz says the next E-class will be thoroughly revised, but we're happy to hear the AMG guys were involved with the sedan's development from the beginning. Autocar says among other things, the E63 may sport a wider front track, a locking differential and a variable-damping MacPherson strut and multi-link suspension.
The new E63 may debut at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show, with sales commencing in early 2010.
