Read Sam Smith's comments on driving the 2009 Toyota Matrix XRS. I'm with Joe. The Matrix is a fine vehicle for its class - indeed, probably the most comfortable and useful - but it just doesn't seem to offer decent value for the dollar. I'd be willing to ignore the typical-Toyota indifferent steering and somewhat lackluster cabin design (not to mention the snoozeworthy chassis personality and buzzy engine) if it were a better deal. That said, it was surprisingly comfortable on the highway, and boasted a plush, cosseting ride that you don't often find in cars of this size.
