2008 Mini Cooper Clubman S Rear View

Read Rusty Blackwell's comments on driving the 2008 Mini Cooper Clubman S.

2008 Mini Cooper Clubman S Rear Barn Doors

Well, the Clubman S's looks are definitely distinctive... Like Marc, I'm not a big fan of the Smart-car-like plastic cladding around the rear doors, and I agree that the single (right-side) suicide door isn't enough. However, I find the symmetrical rear wagon doors/wipers/windows pretty cool, and they're nicely offset by the tough-looking dual exhausts below. Even with the extra weight and length compared with the regular Mini Cooper, this car is still quite nimble and fun to drive, and the ride is a bit better than that of the SWB Mini. This particular car has an extremely annoying metallic rattle coming from somewhere behind the driver's seat, but I couldn't locate its exact source. I don't dislike the Clubman as much as Marc does, but I'd still rather own a Volkswagen GTI than this Mini. Actually, I wouldn't mind a late 1970s right-hand-drive Mini Clubman, but that's another story altogether...
