2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Vanishing Point

When we heard Chrysler's Ralph Gilles and Erich Heuschele were planning on reliving the movie Vanishing Point on this year's One Lap of America, we weren't expecting them to include the movie's destructive ending.  Yet they did - although entirely by accident.

While entering turn 1 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisc, the custom-prepped 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 broke loose, entered the grass and hit a tire-lined wall.  Heuschele, behind the wheel at the time, fortunately wasn't injured - which is more than can be said for the Challenger's front fascia.

That said, the damage may only be skin-deep.  The car was spotted driving away from the track under its own power, and was reportedly driven 200 miles to be repaired at an independent shop.  Gilles claims the car will be repaired for September's Targa Newfoundland, but in the meantime, the duo is running a normal SRT8 in One Lap merely for kicks.
