2008 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid reduces smug, saves planet

Earlier this week I had a chance to drive the Chevrolet Malibu hybrid and I was pretty impressed. I particularly liked the fact that the Malibu doesn't scream hybrid from the rooftops with flashy badges or a goofy exterior designed to minimize the coefficient of drag and maximize the green appeal.

It was perfectly fitting that I happened to see one of my favorite episodes of South Park the next night. In "Smug Alert," the residents of South Park all buy hybrid cars to save the planet. Naturally, this plan backfires when a huge cloud of smug develops over the town. Smug forms when people buy new Toyonda Piouses or Hindsights. Huge clouds of smug from San Francisco and South Park merge with the smug given off from George Clooney's acceptance speech at the Academy Awards and the storm almost destroys South Park.

This probably wouldn't have happened if the people in South Park were driving the Chevrolet Malibu hybrid. As a bonus, the hybrid Malibu is only about $2000 more than a base Malibu. The fuel economy gains might not be incredible, but the hybrid Malibu will be a little better for the environment and you won't look like an eco-weenie driving one.
