The Fiat-owned Italian automaker is looking for a location to build vehicles in the States.
According to Automotive News, Alfa is looking at two options. One would be to purchase an unused plant from one of the domestic automakers. Another is to repurpose a Case New Holland factory; Fiat owns the agricultural machinery company that operates 11 facilities in North America.
The U.S. plant will reportedly have an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles that would be sold in North America as well as Europe. Production would begin in 2011 or 2012.
As for Alfa's entry into the U.S. market, the charge will be lead by the 8C Competizione coupe which will be sold through Ferrari and Maserati dealers. It will be followed by a more-affordable lineup that should get dedicated Alfa Romeo stores.
