Chauffeurs will soon be able to enjoy a $1.35 million-dollar, four-door convertible - sort of.

On the heels of a successful Landaulet show car, Automotive News reports Maybach will offer a new 62 S-based, soft-top Landaulet. Slatted to go on sale in December, the Landaulet features Maybach's usual rich interior appointments and spacious back seat, but a new convertible top replaces roof sheetmetal aft the car's B-pillar. As in a traditional 62 S, the Maybach's front passengers remain isolated from the elements.

Landaulet power should come from Mercedes' 604-hp V-12, which will now be taxed with moving a vehicle weighing around 6500 pounds.

Hans-Dieter Multhaupt, Maybach vice president of program management, said it's been 27 years since the last Laundaulet was produced.

Given Maybach's limited clientele and recent gas prices, many would feel lucky to see even one of these on the road in the next 27 years.
