Read Jean Jennings's comments on driving the 2008 Nissan Cube (JDM).

I would like to say the Nissan Cube is darling, but you'll think I'm some sissy girl, so I'll let those words come right out of the mouth of a friend of mine named DK. This is not a lie. DK works at Lewis Jewelers in Ann Arbor and he reads "all the car magazines," he says, not for a second imagining that I might be insulted. Whatever.

He took one look out the front window and pronounced the Cube "darling."

I took one look at it and jumped in. And instantly felt stupid. Our Cube came from Japan, the only place it's sold for now, and it's right hand drive. I was staring out a windshield with no steering wheel or instrument panel in front of me. I jumped out before anyone saw me, and got in the other side.

The CUBE (what a great name!) has a natural cruising rate of 130 kph at 3200 rpm, accompanied by a giant vacuum hum coming from under the hood. I have no other negative remarks, on a laundry list of things I really, really like:

-Rear seatbacks that flop down easily from the back access, making it simple to improve cargo space as you find you need it.
-Impeccable choice of colors (ecru and sepia interior trim) and materials (checked cloth seats and door inserts, interesting plastic textures and patterns, creamy plastic temp controls)
-HUGE visibility
-Four-wheel-drive button on dash
-Nice sunroof, rear defrost and wiper, keyless ignition
-Proper hand straps in the back to hold the dry cleaning

The Cube is way more interesting to me than the Scion xB, especially since its wimpy redesign. This is a vehicle I'd consider owning.

Please come soon.

Thank you,
Jean Jennings
