Read Amy Skogstrom's comments on driving the 2008 Ford Taurus.

Well, the one thing we always say about the Taurus is definitely true -- the seating position is high. I even tried lowering the seat (something that, as a short person, I don't usually need to do), and, while it does adjust downward slightly, you don't really have the option of sitting low in this car. (It's not a low rider, it's a high rider!) The height of the Taurus is particularly noticeable when it's parked next to more traditional sedans; its roofline looks to be a good foot or more above the other cars in the parking lot.

One of the new features on the Taurus this year is the six-speed transmission, and it performs pretty well, although it's a little abrupt on downshifts during passing maneuvers. However, even though this isn't a sports car, I'd like to be able to manually select one of those six gears, and that isn't possible because the shift lever only has a D and an L (for low, I suppose).

Seats are a little hard, but fairly comfortable. I don't care for the look of the perforated leather on the interior. It looks cheap to me, although it may be because this interior was all black. I'd like to see it in another color before passing judgment.

I do like Ford's nav/stereo system. I'd only ask for a knob for changing the channel rather than a button.
