Kumho lavender tire

What is your biggest complaint about your daily commute? If it is the boring old smell of black rubber, Kumho has the cure for you.

Just over a year ago, we tested a set of Kumho tires that, when provoked by say, a 400 horsepower Pontiac GTO, created red smoke (see the video here.) The problem was, only a few sets of those homologation specials were sold, and at $1995 per tire. Now, Kumho has a new tire with the target of brand awareness, and this one will be sold in large quantities at a reasonable price.

The Kumho Ecsta DX Aroma, as the name suggests, doesn't smell like regular black rubber. The first tire scent to be sold will be lavender, with orange and jasmine scents to come later. They are the result of a year's worth of research and use heat resistant oils to stay smelling sweet. Kumho also promises that they ride as smoothly and quietly as the leading competition, so don't worry about your lavender oils creating highway-speed vibrations. The target buyer for this tire? Kumho says it is "female consumers who drive such sedans as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Subaru Outback, Chrysler Sebring and Ford Taurus." The Ecsta DX Aroma goes on sale in the first quarter of 2007 with the following prices and sizes:

205/60R16 ($119)
215/60R16 ($125)
235/60R16 ($138)
