GM recruits its favorite singers to sing for the World Series, and pieces of cars may be falling to the ground in that flying car commercial.
After watching the beginning of game two of the World Series last night, I wondered something--why didn't Bob Seger sing "Like a Rock" instead of "America the Beautiful" before game one? After all, John Mellencamp turned last night's pregame into a big Chevrolet commercial with his new single that just so happens to be featured in the latest Silverado ads while the camera panned across a truck sitting above the GM fountain in center field at Comerica Park. What ever happened to just a simple singing of the national anthem and an umpire yelling "play ball!"? You've gone too far here, Chevrolet. Sponsor the game. Put your name everywhere. But don't bring your old midwestern rock stars to sing commercials to the crowd and put the game off to an awkward start like that. What's next, big gold bowties on all the baseballs?
On a somewhat unrelated note, watch this GM commercial promoting their 100,000 powertrain warranty. (I know we've all seen it ten billion times, but watch close this time.) Half way in, right after the announcer says "a new level of quality", four people appear in a window with a reflection of a Silverado lifting off the ground. Then something falls. After watching it over and over, I've finally accepted that it is the woman's coffee mug. But it's in the perfect position to make it look like the center cap falls from the truck's rear wheel. Absolutely hilarious. I wonder, did the ad people did it on purpose?
