Pixar Studios (Cars) and Imagine Entertainment (The DaVinci Code) will collaborate on a sequel to both films, The DeSoto Code.

Plot: This story of the last surviving DeSoto’s quest to avoid the crusher hinges on allegations of conspiracy at DaimlerChrysler. Slimy marketing executives crack the whip against the castaway car that contains far greater brand equity than was ever acknowledged.

Unforeseen Twist: Meantime, the Priory of Scion deploys a fleet of armored xAs and xBs to protect the DeSoto, an inauspicious 1952 Firedome sedan updated with keyless entry.

Development: Alas, the code is forgotten and can only be cracked by Carlos Ghosn (Vince Vaughn). Ghosn unwittingly turns to a double-dealing historian and sage, the dastardly Efrem Davidovsky (Jack Palance, in his most challenging role yet). Davidovsky intends to sell the Firedome at the Barrett-Jackson auction, using the proceeds to purchase discarded Pontiac Fiero tooling and market the reborn car under a famous racing prototype's name. Their journey, which begins at Pebble Beach, is diverted to Amelia Island, where Ghosn outwits Davidovsky, momentarily disguising the DeSoto as a 1931 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8B Viggo Jensen Cabriolet d'Orsay (in its first screen appearance since the 1950 film Sunset Boulevard), and making away with Danica Patrick (a badly miscast Reese Witherspoon). They settle in a German touring car series, where the Firedome—now equipped with Variable Beer Assist—consistently achieves the podium.

Look for The DeSoto Code in theaters by Christmas 2007.
